Charity concert, huge success

A Memorial Day benefit concert to raise money for Japan in the aftermath of this spring's massive earthquake and tsunami collected $9,224, organizers said.
The concert in the Mountain Avenue Theatre at Ashland High School included performances by pianist Alexander Tutunov, Rogue Valley Symphony violinist Scott Cole and the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers with Paul French. About 400 people attended.
Event organizer Ai DeVore of D. Productions had a goal of raising $10,000 and said in a news release that she was happy to come so close.
The Japanese Association of Southern Oregon will distribute the money for restoration efforts in disaster-stricken areas of Japan. If you would like to help with the relief fund, call DeVore at 541-227-1710 or Yumiko Nelson at 541-324-8069.
